When I’m not in session, you can find me napping, kayaking, traveling (Morocco and New Zealand have been favorites), and hopefully eating delicious food (I'm working on building up my spice tolerance).

Cultural competence refers to the ability to understand, communicate with, and ethically and effectively interact with people across cultures. It encompasses an awareness of one’s own cultural worldview, the ability to recognize and appreciate cultural differences, and the skills required to navigate diverse cultural contexts.
I have experience and am comfortable working with people of many different cultures and backgrounds. I will always respect your lived experience as a primary source of information. I am also keenly aware of my own identity as a white woman and the privilege associated with this.

Empathy is the ability to recognize, understand, and share the emotions of another person. Developing and employing empathy is crucial for maintaining healthy relationships and behaving compassionately. It involves experiencing another person’s point of view, rather than just your own, and enables prosocial or helping behaviors.
I will always be sensitive to and curious about your experience and your emotions. I will engage in perspective-taking to better understand your frame of mind, notice nonverbal cues including facial expressions and body language, practice active listening, and encourage openness and vulnerability.

Collaboration is the process of working together towards a common goal. It involves individuals or groups sharing knowledge, skills, and resources to achieve a shared objective.
Throughout therapy, we will work together as co-collaborators with no one being deemed more important or smarter than the other. This cooperation is essential to build a strong partnership between us and can even serve as a model for healthy relationships outside of therapy. I may be the expert (one of the many experts) in therapy, but you are the expert in yourself and your own life. Together we will combine our diverse abilities and experiences to best support your well being.

Empowerment is a multi-dimensional social process that helps people gain control over their own lives. It occurs in sociological, psychological, economic, political, and other capacities and fosters power in people for use in their own lives and their communities.
While many who identify as part of marginalized groups can benefit from empowerment, everyone benefits when society improves for all groups of people. Feeling empowered allows you to improve your self-esteem, overcome obstacles, and pursue your goals and dreams. We will develop positive self-talk, practice assertiveness, and engage in joint problem solving together.
